Staff Interpreter Coordinator 

Position Summary

Provides ASL–English interpreting services for deaf and hard-of-hearing students, faculty, staff, and visitors. It also coordinates communication access services (interpreting, captioning, and related accommodations) for the Disability Services Office.


Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret in classrooms, meetings, advising sessions, and campus events.



  • Prepare for assignments and adapt interpreting to consumer needs.



  • Manage scheduling of interpreters, captioners, and related services.



  • Track service usage and assist with reporting.



  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and outside vendors to resolve access issues.



  • Mentor or provide guidance to staff interpreters, interns, or student workers.



  • Support campus outreach, training, and inclusion initiatives.



Essential Functions


  • Deliver accurate, effective real-time interpreting across diverse academic/professional settings.



  • Apply NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct; maintain confidentiality.



  • Exercise independent judgment to resolve communication access barriers.



  • Build positive working relationships with students, faculty, and colleagues.



Minimum Qualifications


  • National Interpreter Certification (NIC, RID, NAD) or state equivalent.



  • Fluency in ASL and English.



  • Experience providing interpreting services in educational/professional settings.



  • Knowledge of Deaf culture, accessibility laws (ADA/504), and interpreting ethics.



  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.



Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience coordinating services in higher education or similar settings.



  • Supervisory or leadership experience.



  • Familiarity with scheduling/data systems.



  • Experience mentoring interpreters or interns.



Working Conditions


  • Flexibility for evenings, weekends, or occasional on-call shifts.



  • Ability to manage physical and mental demands of interpreting.



  • Travel between campus sites as needed.
